BUTOH TECHNO 2019 tour over

We were very delighted to see and collaborate with Mushimaru Fujieda, Ayako Ogawa, Matylda Gerber and Günter Heinz during this year Butoh Techno. The tour 2019 was beyond any measures and has given us strength and motivation to take Butoh Techno further. Massive thank you to everyone involved in this tour and to all people we met and who create all those marvellous venues we performed in.

We are arranging further performances and planning to release albums later on this year so check out the space for news form Shepherds of Cats.

Originated 3 years ago, audio visual spectacle BUTOH-TECHNO is back! We are inviting you to join us on this imaginary tale of man where butoh dancer and live improvising musicians are characters performing on the metaphorical stage of life. The story is told by physical poet and sound and visual artists. The dancer uses his body to tell the story of man’s falls and uprises struggling against the odds of life. Musicians take the roles of his friends and adversaries by building tension and releasing it to create obstacles and to help him overcome them. They create multilayer abstract spaces filled with improvised and techno music and live visuals.

This year, we will perform 6 spectacles, starting 10th May in Wroclaw in Ośrodek Postaw Twórczych. Here is the list of venues:

We have been quiet for a while only to come up with some new recordings and put together our third tour. Yes, early October 2018, we are teaming up with VJ Pietrushka who will create spectacular live video landscapes to be filled with Günter Heinz’s  roaring trombone and Shepherds of Cats’ unearthed sounds. We will give series of audio visual performances in Freiburg, Berlin, Dresden and Prague. While we are finalising the details of the tour, you can enjoy this short video, excerpt from “Rehearsal” animation prepared by Shepherds of Cats.

Dear friends, butoh enthusiasts, improv fans, cats’ lovers, uninteresting objects users that can turn their rather useless toys into something unpredictable and everyone else who i sadly have not mentioned, here is the the rather rare opportunity to see something once in a lifetime – Butoh-Techno spectacle. Heart breaking story about ups and downs of human beings and the fights against the odds of life. The story in one act told by the butoh dancer performing within the abstract scenery of improvised music mixed with techno beats and layers of moving images.

There are two spectacles that will take place in Wroclaw on 18th and 19th April in Osrodek Postaw Tworczych: https://opt-art.net. We will also perform third spectacle on 20th April in Prague in Punctum Krasovka: http://www.punctum.cz

Now, we know that you know that we do not know what you know so do not leave it till the last minute, suspend your disbelief, hold your breath or closed your eyes if that helps and follow your intuition and the link below for the tickets:

Shepherds of Cats – Concert in the dark

Friday 16 October 2015 – 00:00 (3hrs event), FREE

Osrodek Postaw Tworczych ul. Dzialkowa 15, Wrocław, Poland

We would like to invite you for our special 3 hour concert on Friday, 16 October. We gather together to perform at night and in the dark. Get yourself warm cloth, sleeping mat and sleeping bag and possibly pillow. We start at midnight and it is important you get to OPT at 23:45 latest. Due to special character of this event, unfortunately late comers will not be allowed. There is limited space in the concert room, therefore there is a limited number of tickets available  – we recommend to get in touch directly via fanfarefanfare .

Look at the event rather as a sonoristic journey into unknown as we do not know how it unrolls over the night. Sounds reaching you from different directions, gentle electronic scratches behind your head, prolonged vibrations of gongs and tibetan bowls, chimes wishpering into your ears. Reeds, percussions, cello and other acustic instruments that happen to be there will be used in very unconventional way to create this night journey.

Shepherds of Cats – Concert in Macondo

Tuesday 8 September 2016 – 19:00, tickets: 10 PLN

Fundacja Rozwoju Kultury i Sztuki Macondo, Pomorska 19, Wroclaw, Poland

“We play improvised music, full of unexpected and newly created combinations of sounds, generated by variety of acustic instruments and daily objects. You will hear instruments such as cello, ethnic percussions, flutes, tibetan singing bowls, porcelain bells, clavinet or reeds. The music you will hear is very dynamic and colourful, you may discover meditative moments and then noise or some formal destruction. Sometimes we may think we get close to music concrete and sometimes we think of sonoristic experiments, redefining the use of instruments. Therefore, you may expect that cello will become a source of sound of an engine of a spinning washing machine and flutes sounds of chirping birds”

Shepherds of Cats:

Adam Webster: cello, voice

Aleksander Olszewski: ethnic percussions, flutes and other wind instruments

Jan Fanfare: calvinet D6, harmonica, voice

Dariusz Błaszczak: tibetan bowls, porcelain bells, less precised usable objects
